Tips and Ideas for a Camouflage Party

DSC 0890

Camouflage or army parties are always popular with boys.  Don’t be alarmed about boys shouting bang bang bang for hours and giving you a headache.  We’ve got some fool proof party ideas to make the special day enjoyable for all.

Army or Camouflage parties can be energetic affairs so we’d like to share some games that will wear out your little cadets and are great fun too.

Obstacle Course

Create an obstacle course around the party venue. Make the course easier for young children but its also nice to challenge the older ones.

Use tires, cones, ladders, netting to crawl under, string tied at different angles to climb through, hoops, mini trampolines and whatever else you can get your hands on.

Another option is to use the local play park and design a course based on the play equipment.

Either let the kids go round and round the course until they are worn out, or set up a score board and time the children as they go round.

Tug Of War

Kids love tug of war but I love the version of the game where 'Dad' is being pulled by all the kids who later tie him up as well!

A version of the game of tag.  One player is it and they must try to catch the other players.  If they catch someone that person must join them being ‘it’ and they must then continue trying to catch more and more players. Play continues with increasing numbers of players being ‘it’. The last player to be caught wins.

Hunt the Soldier

Hide toy soldiers all over the party venue and send the troops out to find them.

North South East West

Tell the players which wall (or defined area if you are outside) is North, which is South and so on.

Stand somewhere near the middle and point in one direction and shout ‘North’ or ‘South’ etc.

The players must run to the point you have shouted.

Keep shouting different directions so that the players are running all over the place.

Confuse the players by shouting a direction but pointing the wrong way.

Intersperse these directions which the players must do the actions to:

EYE EYE CAPTAIN   Players should salute

CLIMB THE RIGGING   Players should climb imaginary ropes.

MAN THE LIFEBOATS   Players sit down with their legs crossed and pretend to row.

SUBMARINE   Players lie on the ground with their hand up like a periscope and make a noise resembling a submarine. (Boop Boop Boop!)

SWORD FIGHT   An imaginary sword fight takes place between the players.

RAISE THE FLAG   Players pretend to pull on a rope to hoist up a flag.

As the game continues call out the commands progressively faster and faster. Finish the game when all the kids are worn out!!

Nerf Gun Activities

Nerf guns are ever popular, invite friends to bring their own Nerf guns and stock up with ammunition. (Be aware that different weapons can have different ammunition.)

In order that no-one gets hurt lay down a few ground rules.  If their going to shoot each other make it clear that there are no head shots.

If you have woods nearby this is a great place to have a Nerf war as there is plenty of cover and hiding places.

Give the kids a safe zone where they can leave the action and chill out for a while.

Give the kids an incentive like one sweet per Nerf bullet at clean up time.  Its a great way to find them all although you may still lose a few.

If you don’t like the sound of a Nerf war, targets set up with things to knock over are great fun.  Use decorated kitchen roll tubes and other reasonably light items.

Camouflage Hide and Seek

Use camouflage face paint on your troops, then get them to play hide and seek.  Again woods are great for this as they can get really hidden in the undergrowth, but you can also play in the garden.

Den Building

Get the party guests to build a den in the garden.  A trip to the woods beforehand to collect some fallen branches and leaf cover is a good idea.  String or rope cut into lengths is essential to get the structure to stay together.

Obstacle Course

Create your own obstacle course for the troupes to get some extra training.  Use tyres or hoops to step in and out of, sheets or camouflage netting pegged into the ground for them to crawl under and string tied at different angles for them to get through without touching it.  You can also tie bells to the strings so they tinkle when they are touched for added fun.

Once they have had a practice, how about timing the guests as they go round with prizes given to the fastest participants.

If the weather looks good taking the party on a geocaching expedition can be great fun.

Geocaching involves finding a site nearby where there is a hidden box, here you will take a small treat left by another geocacher and in return you leave something for the next person who visits.

It’s great for kids who like technology and exploring as you use an app to find the hiding place. These can be in tree trunks or holes in walls that you may have walked past many times before but never realized there is anything hidden at all!

If you visit the geocaching website you can enter your postcode and find caches in your area.

Face painting

Camouflage face painting is simple and kids love it.  I like letting the kids do it themselves with prizes for the best result.

Capture the Flag

In this game each team has a base with a flag in it.  In between the bases is a ‘jail’.

Players must capture the apposing teams’ flag and get it back to their own base to win.

If a player on team A tags someone on team B (or vice versa) that player must go to ‘jail’ and stay there until tagged by a member of their own team.

If a player is tagged whilst holding the flag they must drop the flag where it is and then go to jail.

Prizes are given to the winning team.

Finger Rockets

Finger flyer rockets are foam rockets with elastic.  These can be pinged across the room or garden.  Set up a competition to see who can make the finger flyer go the furthest.

Decorate your party venue with camouflage banners, black and green streamers and balloons to create a great camouflage atmosphere at the party.  Streamers look great hanging down from doorways or the ceiling and can also be added to open windows where they will move in the breeze.

Party Favours

Themed party favours make the party bag more memorable.  Plastic army hats, badges and dog tags are great and you can find a whole load more on our camouflage favours page. We also have some great filled party bags making ordering your party supplies even easier.
